What a sustainable Coffee retailer can do? Climbing mountains!

This is quite an interesting story that shows you a great way for raising awareness about climate change and global warming. Ishand Natalie, the national beverage manager for Woolworths Café and TriBeCa Coffee Roasting Company  is a member of a team from Woolworths and that was expected to summit the 5 895m Uhuru Peak (Tanzania) today. The expedition is set to arise the awareness on the effect that the mountain’s melting ice is having on coffee farmers in Tanzania, who grow the organic coffee that Woolworths sells in its cafés (courtesy of IOL lifestyle)

 The special Drain Heat Recovery (D.H.R.) unit, 2 patent pending,

transfers heat from the water outlet to the inlet, thus raising the initial temperature of the water supply by around 20°C with a consequent energy saving of over 25% compared to the standard model. It also help saving water (11 litres against 30 consumed by traditional machines) and thanks to its Standby function saves up to 70% of energy in respect to traditional machines. I strongly believe that sustainability is a key factor for business that want to successfully overcome market challenges. And I am glad that this culture for business sustainability is becoming more and more widespread in Italy too. ECOFFEE has in fact received a nomination to participate at the “Green Economy Emilia Romagna” Award, an initiative of Legambiente dedicated to the companies promoting environmental business policies.
